Michael Mandl is managing director of tbw research. He is a highly experienced project leader and key researcher in the field of biorefining. He has a long track record of various biorefinery research projects. He has been deeply involved in developing a green biorefinery technology to separate bulk chemicals (amino acid and lactic acid) from grass silage over the last years.
His main interest is in developing biorefinery concepts and technologies for various feedstocks including e.g. algae, agricultural wastes or side products from food/milk/whey processing. The recovery of bulk chemicals/ intermediates for products before using biomass as feedstock for anaerobic digestion is also an additional focus. Michael Mandl has been working in applied R&D for more than 20 years.Currently he is assistant Task Leader of IEA Bioenergy Task 42 – Biorefining in a Circular Economy.
